String Lights Outdoor builds custom louvered aluminum pergolas for luxury homes across Houston, from River Oaks and Memorial to West University, Bellaire and The Woodlands. For a high-end home, a pergola has to do more than provide shade. It should look like part of the architecture, hide its gutters, wiring and motors, and work as smoothly as the rest of the house.

What sets a luxury pergola apart
Architecture-first design
The pergola should follow the lines, proportions and rooflines of the house. We design each structure in 3D, so you, your architect or designer can review it before anything is built.
Hidden details
Integrated gutters, concealed downspouts inside posts, hidden wiring and recessed lighting give a clean look with nothing tacked on.
Custom finishes
Frame colors can match window frames, trim or roof. Popular high-end choices include matte black, bronze, anthracite and white.
Outdoor-room features
- Dimmable LED lighting in the louvers or perimeter.
- Ceiling fans and infrared heaters.
- Motorized zip screens for shade, privacy and insect control.
- Guillotine or sliding glass walls for a fully enclosed space.
- Smart-home integration for louvers, lights and screens.
- Rain sensors that close the roof automatically.
Where luxury homeowners use louvered pergolas
- Outdoor kitchens and grilling areas. See our aluminum roofs for outdoor kitchens.
- Pool cabanas and lounge areas.
- Courtyards and entertaining terraces.
- Rooftops and upper-level terraces.
- Carports and covered drives.

Working with your architect, designer or builder
Many of our luxury projects involve an architect, interior designer, landscape architect or custom home builder. We provide drawings, product data and coordination for electrical and drainage, and we can join early design meetings so the pergola is planned with the home and landscape, not added afterward. We also prepare documents for neighborhood architectural review.
Why aluminum for a luxury home
Wood requires sealing, painting and repair in Houston’s heat and humidity. Aluminum keeps its shape and finish with little upkeep, supports longer spans with slimmer posts, and holds motorized louvers precisely.
Our process
- Consultation at your home or our showroom in the Decorative Center of Houston, Suite 5002.
- 3D design and measurement drawing, included with our $500 design consultation.
- Engineering, permits and HOA/ACC approval.
- Fabrication to your exact size and finish.
- Installation by our own team, with care for your landscaping and hardscape.
Planning a pergola as part of a larger outdoor living project
Many luxury pergola projects are part of a bigger backyard plan: a new pool, an outdoor kitchen, landscaping or a full renovation. Bringing the pergola into the plan early has real benefits:
- Footings can be placed before pavers or decking go down.
- Electrical and low-voltage wiring for lights, motors, sensors and smart controls can run under the hardscape.
- Drainage from the pergola can connect to the landscape drainage plan.
- Proportions can be designed around furniture layouts, kitchen equipment and pool lines.
We are happy to meet with your pool builder, landscape architect or general contractor to coordinate. The result is a pergola that looks like it was always part of the home, rather than something added after the fact.

Design a louvered pergola for your home
String Lights Outdoor has been building outdoor living spaces since 2016 and has been based in Houston since 2020. Our team handles the full project: site visit, design, engineering coordination, manufacturing, installation and after-sale service. We also manufacture our motorized blinds in-house in Texas.
The best first step is a design consultation ($500), which includes a free 3D design and a measurement drawing for your space, so you can see the finished project and make decisions with real numbers.
